Selling unit

A product’s selling unit is set up in Product Setup. The value is displayed in Sales Order Entry. If you do not specify a selling unit, the stocking unit is used in Sales Order Entry.

You can set up multiple units of measure (UOM). You can use a conversion factor to automatically calculate the conversion when you can sell a product by a different UOM. Prices, costs, and quantities are converted automatically.

For example, you have 65 sheets of sandpaper in stock. Ten sheets are contained in a package, and 5 packages, or 50 sheets, in a case. If the customer service representative specifies sheet in the Unit field, the net available is 65. The customer can buy a maximum of 65 sheets of sandpaper. If the customer service representative specifies pkg as the unit of measure, the net available is 6.5. If the customer service representative specifies case for the unit, the net available is 1.3. The quantity is multiplied by the per-each price to determine the extended price.
