Lot products

Lots are groups of similar products manufactured and warehoused with unique identification numbers. Because slight variations can occur during the manufacture of each lot, these products are tracked through the supply chain by their lot numbers.

For example, the fasteners that are used to assemble automobiles are tracked with lot numbers. If a defect is discovered, the automobiles that were assembled with the defective fasteners can be identified and repaired.

Lots differ from serial numbers because each lot record contains multiple units per record whereas each serial number is a record.

When a lot is received, a Product Extended Lot Number Setup record is created. The record includes the quantity of the lot product. When the product is sold, the quantities are removed from the lot until the quantity is zero.

The Receive Lots Into setting in SA Administrator Options-Products-Default-Receiving determines into which lots you can receive products.

The Product Lot Report includes information from Product Extended Lot Number Setup. It can provide an audit trail of the history of each lot.
