Automatic inventory allocation
Sales Order Entry and Transfer Entry consider the reservation type on the Product Warehouse Product Setup record before reserving inventory and assigning the shipped quantity on an order line. Reservations can be delayed, against receipts, or always. The system determines during line entry whether a line is delayed or if quantities can be reserved against future receipts.
Although most warehouse products can be consistently managed by the standard inventory reservation rule, you can assign a reservation type to those products that require different timing to more efficiently use your inventory and potentially reduce your inventory investment.
For this feature to process accurately, the system assumes that the promise date in Sales Order Entry and the due date in Transfer Entry are specified before the lines are added to the order or transfer. The current promise and due dates are used to determine inventory reservation. If the dates are specified after the lines have been created, the lines are not automatically re-evaluated based on the new dates.
A future order is an order that has all lines filled, and the promise date is in the future so the pick ticket does not print. An exception occurs during Sales Entry Processing Back Order Fill for all lines that are on the future order. Because the pick ticket does not print, the order is not shipped. Analyze the order to determine if the dates should be changed to ship the order early.

- Sales order lines
- Sales order build-on-demand kit component lines
- Sales order tally component lines
- Transfer lines
- KP work order prebuilt kit component lines
Products cannot be:
- On a suspended order
- Serialized or lot products
- Warehouse-managed products
- Products in Warehouse Logistics (TWL) warehouses
- Entered on a VA work order
- Entered on a Service Warranty work order
