Product sales restrictions
Product restrictions records, which are created and maintained in Product Restrictions Setup, prevent the sale of restricted products by barring their inclusion on sales orders in Sales and other modules throughout Distribution SX.e. Your company uses this functionality to comply with product restrictions mandated by government entities, distributors, or vendors. For example, products may be restrictedfor these reasons:
- Government entities, such as the Environmental Protection Agency, consider the product hazardous to the environment.
- National or local governments do not allow a product category, such as alcohol, into their country, state, county, or other local jurisdiction.
- Laws prevent customers from purchasing certain products without a license or certificate on file with the selling company.
- Territorial sales restriction agreements between a vendor and distributor restrict the sale of a certain brand in a particular state.
Product restriction records can be warehouse-specific. They are set up by these product types:
- Product
- Product Line
- Product Category
- Product Price Type
- Brand Code
In SA Administrator Options-Product, you can enable the restriction types you want to use. When you create a product restriction record, you must specify this information:
- A product restriction code, which is created in SA Table Code Value Setup
- If the product is not allowed or allowed
- If the restriction for the product can be overridden
- If a certificate or license is required for the product to be sold
Customer-level product restrictions records are attached to and further define the main product restriction record. Customer-level restriction records are optional. A main product restriction record might have one or several customer-level restriction records that are attached to it, or none at all. You can set up records for these customer-level details:
- Customer
- Customer Ship To
- Customer Type
- Customer Price Type
- Customer Territory
- Certificate/License
- City-State
- Postal Code
- Country
Products are validated against the product restriction records in these functions where a sales order line or sales order can be created, edited, copied, converted, finished, manually shipped, or electronically received.
During the validation process, the product on a sales order line is validated against the main product restriction records. The order in which the restriction records are reviewed are based on a hierarchy that is set up in SA Administration Options-Products. If a restriction record for the product is found, customer-related settings on the sales order are validated against the customer-level restriction records. For example, the ship to address is validated against City-State, Postal Code, and Country records. If a restriction record applies to the product and sales order, the product might be allowed or restricted, depending on how the restriction record was set up.
- If the restriction record does not allow the product, you cannot add the product to the sales order unless the product restriction record allows the restriction to be overridden. If you do not want to override the restriction, you can clear the line from the order or send the line to lost business.
- If the restriction record allows the product, the restriction information, including Product Certifications/License Setup record information, is stored on the sales order line for reporting and inquiry purposes.
