Assigning products to WM bin locations

After you have created bin locations for Warehouse Manager, you must modify the product record to enable that product to be Warehouse Manager-controlled. Although Warehouse Manager is initially enabled in SA Administrator Options, you must select Warehouse Manager in Product Warehouse Product Setup-General to enable individual product records.

Note:  These instructions assume you have already set up the products in Product Setup and in Product Warehouse Product Setup.

Before you select the Warehouse Manager, determine which products are Warehouse Manager-controlled and the quantity of product to be stored in each bin location.

Determining the quantity should be timely. You do not want to determine the quantity too soon such that the quantity counts are not accurate. We recommend that you enable individual product records during off hours. If there is a time lapse between selecting the Warehouse Manager option and assigning the product, all orders and inventory adjustments made during that time are affected.

  1. Select Product > Setup > Warehouse Product.
  2. Search for the product record, and then open it.
  3. In the General view, specify this information in the Location section:
Bin Location #1 and Bin Location #2
Two bin locations are provided for each product in a warehouse associated with this product record. Although both locations are optional, we recommend that you specify the primary bin location, as specified in the Assignment field of WM Bin Location and Product Setup. Use this format: Bldg/Row/Section/Shelf. For example, AA/A1/003/012.
Bin Location #1 is updated with the primary or single bin location when you run the WM Audit Report. Bin Location #2 is user defined. Both bins are printed on pick tickets and physical count sheets. To set up additional bins, click Addition Bins.
    Warehouse Manager
Select this option to make this product Warehouse Manager-controlled.
    Bin Type
Select a bin type to restrict the bin type in which this product can be stored. Restrictions improve Purchase Pre-Receiving Report processing. If you do not specify a bin type, the Purchase Pre-Receiving Report searches through every open bin, which makes the report generation time consuming. Bin types are set up in SA Table Code Value Setup and assigned to bin locations in WM Bin Location and Product Setup.
    Allocation Type
Specify a value to determine how capacity is calculated. This field works with the Cube field in Product Setup. If the Cube field or Cube Capacity field is blank, Warehouse Manager assumes that for one stocking unit of product, one cube of space is taken and the product is restricted to bins of that size. If you select Size Type Restricted and defined size types in SA Table Code Value Setup, this product is restricted to bins with that size type and their WM Cross Reference by Size Type Setup maximum.
    Priority
Select FIFO Priority to use the date stored to determine which bin location was first in, and prioritize that bin to be picked. Select Code to use the priority code specified in WM Bin Location and Product Setup.
    Restrict To
Use this field to restrict storage of this product to specific building or row in a bin. We recommend you specify the same building and row used for this record's bin location, that is, match the format Bldg/Row/Section/Shelf. For example, specify AA/A1. Restrictions improve Purchase Pre-Receiving Report processing.
During Purchase Receipt of Inventory Entry, when you try to assign a bin and it is not in the specified building or row, you receive this a message:
WARNING: Product Warehouse Product Setup Building/Row Bin Type Restriction Not Compatible with WMSB (8699).
  4. Click Save.
