KP Work Order Center Entry - Quick Work Order Entry overview

Kit Production > Entry > Work Order Center

Use this page to create prebuilt kit work orders. Quick Entry is an alternate function to KP Entry Recommended Work Orders Report, which creates work orders for prebuilt kits automatically for special OE/WT orders and line point replenishment.

A build-on-demand kit can have a prebuilt kit as one of its components; however, you cannot place a build on demand kit on a work order. Use A prebuilt kit is assembled in advance of actual demand and stored in inventory as a single product with its own identity. When the prebuilt kit is sold or transferred, it is taken from the warehouse shelf and inventory is reduced. To enter work orders in Quick Entry, you must have a minimum security level of 3 in SA Operator Setup to enter build on demand kits.

These checks are performed to qualify kit products and components:

  • The product/component must be set up in Product Setup and Product Warehouse Products Setup.
  • A KP Component Setup record with at least one component must exist.
  • The product/component must be active.
  • The parent product must be a kit product that has the Kit Type field set to Pre-Built in Product Setup.
  • If the component has a unit conversion, it must be set up in Product Extended Unit Conversion Setup or SA Table Value Setup.
  • If entering an optional component, it must be set up in KP Option Setup.
  • If entering a group type component, the group must be set up in KP Group Setup.
  • The kit component must not be a build on demand kit.
  • The kit component must not be a core charge product.
  • The kit component must not be a direct order product.

Quick Entry requires a valid warehouse, a prebuilt kit product, and a quantity to build. When the quantity to build is greater than the component availability, a back order can be created. The back order contains the difference between the quantity ordered and the quantity shipped, that is, the quantity that is recommended to be built and the quantity built. The available quantities are reserved until the remaining components are obtained and the kit can be assembled.

After you click Save Work Order, if you must make changes, you can edit the work order on the KP Work Order Center Entry window.

The quantity that is available to build and the quantity that must be back ordered is determined based on component quantities and the requirements of the KP Component Setup records.

After you enter the work orders on the Quick Entry window, these updates occur for Product Warehouse Product Setup values:

  • Reserve quantity for the components is updated with the quantity that can be built.
  • On Order balance for the kit product is updated for the quantity needed.
  • Demand is updated for the difference between the quantity shipped and quantity ordered, if a back order is created for a work order.

During entry, access the Component window to list the components of the kit product entered on the line. You can add or modify components, change quantities or units, or add detail information for the specific component from this window. This window display automatically if the KP Kit Component Setup Required option is selected for keyword or option components. You must enter the required keywords or options and cannot proceed until the selections are made. Any modifications made on the Components window do not alter the KP Component Setup records. The modifications you make only affect the current kit records and Product Setup Warehouse Product quantities accordingly.

Printed work orders include a description of the kit and the bin locations for the finished kits. All components are listed in sequence order for assembly and component stock numbers are given on the work order. The quantity required for each component, the unit of measure, the bin locations for each component, and any reference that was stored with the component are shown. You can print work orders at any time using KP Entry Print Work Orders Report. You can also use the print option from the shortcut menu on the KP Work Order Center Entry window.
