Product Setup - Cut field descriptions

Fields are presented in alphabetical order within each section.

Cut Dimension Definition

Cut Type

Specify the cut type as No Cut, OE Linear Cut, RF Linear Cut, or Dimensional Cut. A linear cut has length only defined. A dimensional cut has length and width defined. Select OE Linear Cut as the cut type for products that can be components of external assembly build on demand kits. Select RF Linear Cut to specify lengths in TWL RF.

Linear Cut

The fields in this section are available when the Cut Type is set to OE Linear Cut or RF Linear Cut.

1st Part

Select Integer to require an integer. An integer field ignores any entered decimal places.

Select Decimal to allow a decimal value.

Specify the Unit. This dimension is a multiple of the cut product's stocking unit. The multiplier is based on the 1st Part unit value. If the unit value is the stocking unit then the multiplier is 1. If the unit value is an alternate unit set up in Product Extended Unit Conversion Setup or SA Table Code Value Setup-Unit Conversion, then the multiplier is taken from the alternate unit conversion factor.

2nd Part

Select Integer to require an integer. An integer field ignores any entered decimal places.

Select Decimal to allow a decimal value.

Specify the Unit. This dimension is a multiple of the cut product's stocking unit. The multiplier is based on the 2nd Part unit value. If the unit value is the stocking unit then the multiplier is 1. If the unit value is an alternate unit set up in Product Extended Unit Conversion Setup or SA Table Code Value Setup-Unit Conversion, then the multiplier is taken from the alternate unit conversion factor.

Increment

Specify the increment. This dimension is a subset of the 1st Part and 2nd Part Unit dimensions and defines the numerical relationship to each. For example, if the 1st Part Unit is set to foot and the 2nd Part Unit is set to inches, the increment would be 12.

Length

Select 1 Part to define a single unit of measure.

Select 2 Part to define a two-part unit of measure.

Dimensional cut

The fields in this section are available when the Cut Type is set to Dimensional Cut.

1st Part

Select Integer to require an integer. An integer field ignores any entered decimal places.

Select Decimal to allow a decimal value.

Specify the Unit. This dimension is a multiple of the cut product's stocking unit. The multiplier is based on the 1st Part unit value. If the unit value is the stocking unit, then the multiplier is 1.

Select Fraction to allow a fractional value.

Specify the Unit. This dimension is a multiple of the cut product's stocking unit. The multiplier is based on the 2nd Part unit value. If the unit value is the stocking unit, then the multiplier is 1.

Width

Select 1 Part to define a single unit of measure.

Select 2 Part to define a two-part unit of measure.

Cut Container

This section is displayed when the Cut Type is set to No Cut. Select No Cut to set up a cut container product.

Container Type

Select the type of linear cut container. Your options include Spool or Box.

Select Non Container if this is not a cut container.

The appropriate dimension fields are displayed when you select the Container Type.

Barrel Diameter

If you selected Spool as the Container Type, specify the value, in inches, that defines the diameter of the spool barrel.

Container Factor

This value is calculated based on the values you specify for these fields for a Spool container type:

  • Barrel Diameter
  • Reel Traverse
  • Flange Length
  • Unusable Flange Portion

The spool Container Factor = [Barrel Diameter + (Flange Length - Unusable Flange Portion)] * (Flange Length - Unusable Flange Portion) * Reel Traverse * 0.262

If you select a Box container type, Container Factor is calculated based on the values you specify for these fields:

  • Height
  • Length
  • Width

To determine the capacity of a cut product in a box, the shorter of the box length and width values is used. The box Container Factor = [(0.5 * Shortest) + (0.25 * Shortest)] * (0.25 * Shortest) * Height * 0.262.

The spool or box Container Factor is used in the calculation to determine the Container Capacity.

Container Capacity = Container Factor / (Wire Diameter)2

Flange Length

If you selected Spool as the Container Type, specify the value, in inches, that defines the length of the spool flange. Flanges are the narrow circular guards that cap either end of the spool's flat edges.

Reel Traverse

If you selected Spool as the Container Type, specify the value, in inches, that defines the spool's reel traverse, or drum length. The traverse is the distance between the inner edges of the flanges.

Unusable Flange Portion

If you selected Spool as the Container Type, specify the value, in inches, that defines the unused portion of the flange, sometimes referred to as the freeboard.

Capacity Work Pad

The fields in the Capacity Work Pad section can be used to determine the capacity of the cut container. The values in these fields are not stored.

Adjustment Factor

The Adjustment Factor is a constant value used for a given wire diameter to allow for less than 100% of a container’s working capacity. The larger the number, the more capacity the container can hold. Generally, the larger the wire diameter, the smaller the Adjustment Factor should be. The default value is 0.262. This value can be changed if required. Refer to your manufacturer's guidelines for assigning an adjustment factor.

Capacity

This value is calculated automatically based on the values you specify in the Adjustment Factor and Wire Diameter fields. It is calculated as:

Container Factor / (Wire Diameter)2

Wire Diameter

Specify the diameter of the wire, in inches, represented as a decimal value. For example, a wire diameter of a quarter inch would be specified as .25.

Note: This value is required if you associate the cut product with a container in Product Extended Product Cut Container Setup.
