Setting up product restriction functionality

Product restrictions records prevent products from being sold to unauthorized customers and enables your company to comply with the product restrictions mandated by government entities, distributors, or vendors. To use the product restriction functionality, you must enable product restriction types and create product restriction codes to create the product restriction records and certificate/license records.

In SA Administrator Options, you can select the types of restriction records that are created in Product Restrictions Setup. You can enable the main product restriction types that are applied to sales order lines to determine if the product is restricted, and the customer-level product restriction types which are attached to and further define the main product restriction records. If you disable all of the main product restriction types, you cannot create a record. You can also override the default hierarchy of the main product restriction type records in this function. If you change which restriction types are enabled, you must log out of and log back into Distribution SX.e for the changes to take effect. Hierarchy changes are effective immediately.

The restriction codes are created and maintained in SA Table Code Value Setup. These codes are specified on Product Restrictions Setup and Product Certifications/Licenses Setup records. On a sales order line, Distribution SX.e uses the restriction code from a restricted product record to search for a certificate or license for the customer or shipto.

  1. Select System Administrator > Administration > Administrator Options > Products.
  2. In the Product Restrictions section, select the product restriction types you want to enable.
  3. If you select Allow Restrictions by Warehouse, the Warehouse field is displayed for each of the restriction types that was selected in the previous step but it is not a required setting. You can leave the Warehouse field blank when you create a product restriction record.
  4. Select the customer-level product restriction types you want to enable.
  5. Optionally, to override the default hierarchy for product restriction types, move the product restrictions types from the Default Hierarchy field into the Override Hierarchy field. Use these instructions:
    1. In the Default Hierarchy field, click the product restriction type you want at the top level of the hierarchy and click the right arrow button.
    2. Move the remaining product restriction types to the Override Hierarchy field. The order in which you move the types determines the order of the hierarchy. You cannot rearrange the order in the Override Hierarchy field.

If you disabled a product restriction type in the Enable Product Restriction Types section, you do not have to include it in the override hierarchy.

  6. Click Save.
  7. Select System Administrator > Setup > Table Code Value.
  8. Select Product Restrictions from the Table List field.
  9. Click New.
  10. Specify a code and a description for the product restriction. The code can be an alphanumeric code up to 10 characters in length.
  11. Click Save.
