Line comments

You can attach comments to each line of an order in an order entry function (Sales Order Entry, Purchase Order Entry, Transfer Entry, and so on). A comment is similar to a note, except it relates to the specific, active line item, not the entire order.

Line comments can be one of two types: printed or internal. When you add a line comment in Sales Order Entry, you can select to create a Pick Ticket Comment, where the comment is printed with the line on the pick ticket. On the Line Comments window, you can also select to print the comment on the invoice, acknowledgement, or TWL packing slip. Comments selected for printing are printed on Print Format 1 (standard) or 4 (IDM or third-party) forms.

Line comments for purchase order, warehouse transfer, or Value Add order lines are printed on pick tickets only.

The second type of comment is an internal comment. If you specify an internal comment, the line comment can be viewed in the entry or associated order inquiry function only.

Line comments are added in the entry function and update a separate database table (COM). They are not added using the Notes context application.

Stand-alone comments are another option if you want to create an extra line item on the order to insert important information such as upcoming promotions or detailed product descriptions. These comments are manually added to an order using the multi-line move feature to print before or after a line item. They are designated as internal, external, or subtotal comments, and are stored in the order line comment table (OEELC). When you print a pick ticket in Sales Entry Pick Tickets Report, you can choose Yes for the option Print Internal Comments to print internal stand-alone comments on a pick ticket.
