About copying configuration options to a new line item

As another form of editing, you can copy a configured line in an order to a new line. You can also use the copied line as a base template, if the line was copied before launching the Configurator. Copying avoids having to configure similar items completely from scratch. Instead, you can edit certain options from the line copied. Copying is beneficial in situations where, for example, your customer is placing an order for several doors for a specific project; the doors are similar in style but vary in width and handing.

Only specific configurations of transferable build-on-demand kits can be copied to a new order line. Enable this feature in Product Setup-General-Kit. Select Allow in the Allow Transferable Build on Demand Kits field.

During Sales Order Entry, as you are adding a transferable build-on-demand kit to the order, the Fabricated Kit Information section is available. The Copy Config From Line # field is available if these conditions are met:

  • You are adding a new line item.
  • The product is flagged as a configurable product in Product Setup.
  • The order contains at least one other configurable kit line item.

If all conditions are met, you can specify a line number from which to copy the configuration options. Then, use it as a template for the current line.

Note:  The field default is zero. If you retain the default, existing logic is used by the system.

A non-zero entry must meet these criteria:

  • Must be different than the current line number.
  • Must contain a configurable kit product. That is, where the Ruleset field on the Product Setup-Cores & Configurator matches the Ruleset of the product on the current line item.

If the line number is valid, a call is made to CPQ. The call copies all configuration selections from the source line item to the new line before invoking the Configurator. When the Configurator is opened, you can edit the options necessary and save using standard functionality.
