Converting multiple nonstock products to a stocked product

If you decide to carry a nonstock product as a regularly stocked product, you can move the nonstock into inventory in Product Adjust Non-stock/Direct Order Entry if it is an active nonstock with quantity available to sell.

You can convert a single nonstock product to a stocked product or you can convert multiple nonstock products to a single stocked product.

Use these instructions to convert multiple nonstocks to a single stocked product. You can convert a single product.

See Converting a single nonstock product to a stocked product.

  1. Select Product > Entry > Adjust Non-stock/Direct Order.
  2. Verify the Non Stock type and Active options are selected.
  3. Specify a warehouse and other search criteria, and click Search.
  4. Select the products you want to convert. Verify that the products have available quantity to move into inventory.
  5. Click Mass Update.

If the Mass Update option is not available, but the Inventory option is, you have either selected only one nonstock product, or the products you selected are not active. If you are using TWL or an ION-integrated warehouse, the Mass Update option is not available.

  6. Click OK to open a journal.
  7. In the Non-Stock Inventory Defaults window, the values for the first product that you selected are displayed. Change these values, if required. The values you specify are used to create the new product in Product Setup and Product Warehouse Product Setup. Click OK.

If a Product Setup or Product Catalog Setup record already exists for this product, you cannot change the description or product category. If the product category is changed to a category associated with a different GL account, a GL transaction is made to adjust the quantities in both GL accounts. If a Product Warehouse Product Setup record exists for this product number, the status cannot be changed.

  8. If you have selected nonstock products with multiple units of measure, the current levels for each UOM, up to five, are displayed. You can convert to a single unit of measure only. You must first adjust those quantities with a different unit of measure than you are using for the stocked product. Use the Inventory function in Product Adjust Non-stock/Direct Order Entry to remove the quantity from the different unit and recreate the new quantity with the stocking unit.
  9. Optionally, specify the bin location.
  10. Click OK.

If the conversion causes the quantity available and value totals to equal zero, the nonstock set is automatically closed.
