Product shipping restrictions
Specific product shipping restrictions for a product, which are created and maintained in Product Shipping Restriction Setup, restrict products to specific Ship Via parameters. Sales orders are placed on hold when those requirements are not met. Your company uses this functionality to comply with shipping and special handling restrictions required for the product. For example, products may require specific shipment parameters for these reasons:
- A specific carrier type, such as ground shipping, is required for the shipment.
- The product requires refrigeration throughout its shipment.
Failure to comply with shipping or special handling requirements, such as carrier type or refrigeration, could lead to regulatory fines, or your customers could receive spoiled products. This function can help ensure that your shipment requirements are consistently and reliably met.
Use these features to restrict products to specific Ship Via parameters:

- Shipment Type selection in SA Table Code Value Setup-Ship Via and SA Table Code Value Setup-Special Handling
Use the Product Shipping Restriction Setup function to set up Ship Via restrictions by product, product line, or product category. These restriction records can apply to sales orders or warehouse transfers with specific a Ship Via selection. Product shipping restriction records can be set up to accompany a product sales restriction code.
In addition, you can select special handling restrictions for a product with the Special Handling tab in Product Setup. See Product special handling.
You can also identify the shipment types allowed for a Ship Via and special handling code with the Shipment Type field in the Ship Via and Special Handling tables in SA Table Code Value Setup. When the product shipping restriction validation is applied for a sales order, the special handling shipment types are checked against any Ship Via shipment types. For example, if the Shipment Type for a Ship Via includes Air Shipment, and the Shipment Type for the special handling code is Air Only, then the Ship Via is valid.
