PIN or Signature card transactions

If you have installed a card scanner device, you can scan a credit card during tendering. You can also scan a debit card and use personal identification number (PIN) entry or signature capture.

The Credit Card Interface supports the devices CenPOS supports to provide debit card PIN entry and, optionally, signature capture. This data is stored and controlled by CenPOS. This functionality is primarily for card-present counter sales that use a dedicated device on a terminal with Sales Order Entry.

Note: Devices supported by CenPOS are subject to change. Check with your CenPOS representative for more information.

During tendering, in the Collect Payment view, your customer can swipe their card in the scanner device. In the CenPOS form, the customer data is displayed. You can complete any required fields and submit the data. Then, CenPOS communicates with the device to ask the customer to approve the amount of the sale, and collect the customer's PIN or signature. CenPOS authorizes the transaction, and records the payment in Sales Order Entry. Captured signatures are held by CenPOS and are not available for receipts.

Device configurations

Some setup is required for the terminal and for the device. Ensure the CenPOS' point-of-sale bridge software is configured so CenPOS can find the device and provide the necessary connection with the Distribution SX.e WebUI. When a One Time Sale connection is initiated, CenPOS automatically checks to see whether a scanner device is in place and maintains the necessary connections to accept data from the device.

The Credit Card Interface uses the IP address to support additional Virtual Terminal Bridge connection methods for multiple scanner devices.

CenPOS' Virtual Terminal Bridge (VTB) software is typically installed on the same computer as the user's WebUI client, the point-of-sale object. The VTB connects the POS object, 1-to-1, to a single scanner device. Using the IP address of the POS object computer, this connection enables CenPOS to send the response to the correct scanner device and POS object during the transaction session.

If you are using a remote desktop protocol (RDP) to connect to a server-based Distribution SX.e WebUI, you must set up the credit card and debit card interface to handle these configurations appropriately. This functionality enables you to tie the IP address of the computer where the VTB is installed, to the scanner device.

EMVCo specification milestones shift liability from the credit card companies to the merchants, such as distributors. This shift affects how you configure your devices. The Credit Card Interface does not support sharing of devices between multiple users due to a lack of control over the data flow, Distribution SX.e, and CenPOS. To avoid the risk of data corruption that is related to sharing a device, contact your CenPOS representative for more information about secure configurations.

Devices and bridge connection methods supported by CenPOS are subject to change. Check with your CenPOS representative for more information.

Setup

Use SA Table Code Value Setup to establish the Device Location type and associate that device with an IP Address. Set this up for each scanner device. Then, for each customer service representative (CSR) that uses the device, associate that Device Location with the CSR in SA Operator Setup-Entry Options.

Workflow

After the setup is complete, you should modify your workflow so that for each sales order, a CSR always:

  • Logs into a WebUI session,
  • Selects the correct device, if a different device is associated, and
  • Logs out of the session when the order is complete and the card approval is received.
