Tally prices and costs

When you set up a tally product, you must set up the parent product and all components in the tally as special priced products. The prices and costs of a dimensional tally are based on the Product Setup record of the tally parent product. The cost of the tally is rolled using the components’ Product Warehouse Product Setup cost.

Note:  Receiving and costing tally products does not support the use of foreign currency.

These special pricing fields are relevant to the tally and components you are setting up:

Product Setup field Dimensional tally component Dimensional tally product
Stocking Must be stocked by the piece or each Must be stocked by linear feet (LF)
Special Price/Cost This field cannot be blank.
Special Price/Cost Unit Must be the same for all components and tally product
Price/Cost Per Stock Set to allow conversions between stocking and special pricing units

If you select Yes in the Special Price/Cost field, a conversion factor, and a description, Product Warehouse Product Setup prices and costs are converted using the conversion factor. This table contains an example of how a special priced dimensional tally product and components are set up:

Product Setup field Component 1 8-Ft Pieces Component 2 10-Ft Pieces Component 3 12-Ft Pieces Tally
Stocking PC - Piece PC - Piece PC - Piece LF - Linear Ft
Special Price/Cost Yes Yes Yes Yes
Special Price/Cost Unit MBF MBF MBF MBF
Price/Cost Per Stock 0.005333 0.006667 0.008 0.000667

To calculate the Price/Cost Per Stock, divide the cubic inches in a component by the number of cubic inches in a thousand board feet (MBF). One MBF contains 144000 cubic inches (1" x 12" x 12" = 144 cubic inches in a board foot x 1000). An 8-foot component contains 768 cubic inches (8 x 12 x 2 x 4 = 768 cubic inches). The factor is the result of dividing 768 by 144000 or 0.005333. This formula is applied to each of the components to determine the number of units in the stocking unit.

In SA Administration Options-Products-Defaults, select Control Special Pricing Values For Tally Products to consistently set up the special pricing fields. Select Use the PO Adjustment Factor For Tally Components to apply the purchase order adjustment factor to tally components. If this option is not selected, all tally component lengths are received without modifying the component cost. You cannot change the cost of the tally parent product during receiving. Any variance between the cost of the tally parent product and the sum of the components is posted to the Tally Variance account during AP costing.
