Comparison of kit types

This table compares the main features of these types of kits:

Work order for assembly May be back ordered if there is insufficient component quantity to build the kit. The pick ticket serves as the work order to assemble the kit. Work order is created automatically when the product is entered in Sales Order Entry.
Inventory Stored in inventory as a single product. Not stocked in inventory. Can be temporarily stocked in inventory during anticipated sales conditions.
Order entry Entered as a regular product on the sales order. Can be back ordered. Cannot be placed on a warehouse transfer, purchase order, or work order. Is tied automatically to a warehouse transfer if the fabricating warehouse is different than the sales order warehouse when entered in Sales Order Entry. Also tied to a work order when entered in Sales Order Entry.
Replenishment Work order used to replenish when available quantity falls below line point. Kit components replenished through normal product replenishment process. Kit components replenished through normal product replenishment process.
