Viewing log files in the Windows event log
In addition to using the portal Diagnostic Viewer to view event messages, you can also review messages in the Windows event log. These are the types of messages written to the Windows event log by IPF:
- Error: This level is for specific bootstrap or other critical architecture problems that prevent either the writing or viewing of diagnostic messages. For example, if the IPF Control Service fails to start, due to permissions problems, a detailed message about the problem is provided.
- Information: This level is for diagnostic messages that are intended to be viewed in the Portal Manager Diagnostics Viewer. A pre-formatted Diagnostic Viewer message is provided.
By default, verbose-level messages are not written to the Windows event log. This level is for internal IPF architecture messages, and an arbitrarily formatted message intended for Infor consumption is provided.
To help diagnose customer problems, Infor Support may provide details on how to change the logging level to include verbose messages.
