Portal and data source task summary
This information provides a summary of portal and data source management tasks
you can perform in the Portal Manager. The tasks may be designated as one of these:
- Hot safe: The operation does not affect existing portal user sessions; however, new sessions are affected. If you bring down the portal, new sessions cannot be started.
- Not hot safe: Changes from the operation take effect immediately and they do affect existing portal user sessions.
- Neither: The operation does not affect running users. Note: All tasks in the Portal Configuration area of the Portal Manager can be made hot safe automatically. Select and then select Make configuration changes Hot Safe.
Managing portal applications
- Bring Down a Portal: This is hot safe. This action causes the portal to stop accepting new sessions. The portal status is automatically set to Suspending. Existing sessions are not affected.
- Force Down a Portal: This is not hot safe. This action stops accepting new sessions and ends all existing sessions for the portal.
- Bring Up a Portal: This is hot safe. This action starts accepting new sessions. The portal status is automatically set to Up.
- Delete a Portal: You must select a portal other than the current portal. You cannot delete the portal to which you are connected. This is not hot safe. This action stops all sessions and stops accepting requests.
- Add Portal Administrator/Developer Users or Groups: This action provides Is Administrator permissions, so users can access the Portal Manager for a specified portal. See Adding portal administrator users.
- Launch the Portal Manager or Browse a Portal: You can launch the Portal Manager for a selected portal or open the selected portal in a browser window using links on this form.
Managing data sources
- Clear Data Source Cache: When images, translations, or schema are changed in a back office, SQL Server, or Oracle data source, you must clear the data source cache in order for those changes to be seen on the portal.
