Using rich-HTML email messages for event notifications

By default, portal-related event notifications are sent from the back office as plain text or simple-HTML email messages. They are sent to users who have a primary email address on the Users form and Send Email Notification set on the Customer Users form or Vendor Users form.

To instead send rich-HTML for most portal messages, additional settings are needed.

  1. In the Portal Manager, make sure these tasks were completed during portal configuration:
    1. Enable the email repository for the appropriate MSSQL data source.
    2. Set up the external interface mapping for either Windows authentication or Open Authentication (OAuth).
  2. On the Portal Parameters form, this information must be specified:
    Use Portal Email
    This option must be selected.
Note: To ensure that portal users do not receive plain text and rich-HTML for the same messages, and that messages are either sent or not sent based on portal users’ preferences, changes to the Use Portal Email option automatically update existing settings on the Users, Customer Users, and Vendor Users forms.
OAuth Consumer Key and OAuth Consumer Secret
Open authentication IDs are generated using the Portal Manager. If you use open authentication for portal email, these fields must not be edited on the Portal Parameters form. Changing the values would disable portal email, and you would need to generate new keys to make it work again. However, to switch from open authentication to Windows authentication, you can simply clear these fields.
Note: Rich-HTML portal emails exist for notifications as specified in the event handler summary table. Any other existing notifications are sent only from the event system.
