Hiding menu options in the XML-based side menu

To hide menu options in the XML-based side menu, you must edit the menu.xml file in the Portal Manager. These menus are included in the menu.xml file:

  • Pre-login Customer Portal
  • Customer Portal
  • Administrator
  • Reseller Portal
  1. In the Portal Manager, select Content Development > All Components.
  2. Expand Assets > Menu.
  3. Select the menu.xml file and click Edit. A copy of the file, with your editable originator, is added.
  4. Click the copied file and drag it to your desktop.
  5. Right-click the file and select Open with. Choose your HTML editor or Notepad. Do not open the file with Microsoft Word.
  6. Find the menu option(s) to hide and change the display setting to display=“N” .
  7. Save your changes. Do not change the file name.
  8. Drag the file back to the Menu folder in the Portal Manager and overwrite the existing file in your editable originator. The file remains locked until you export content.
  9. To review the change, open or refresh the applicable portal website.
