Looking for matching lead records

You can compare the lead to other leads, contacts or accounts that exist in the database. If a record exists in the database with the same information, you can avoid having duplicate records.

Note: The application can only search for duplicate records that you have permission to view. A duplicate record that you are not able to access can still exist.
To search for matching records:
  1. Specify lead information in the Insert Lead window, and click Look for Matching Records.
Note: You can also click Is this Lead already a customer? link on the Lead detail view. See Using the Lead detail view

The Search for Duplicates window is displayed.

  2. (Insert Lead only) Select the type of records to search next to Type field.
  3. Select the required filter check boxes to apply under Match Filters field.
  4. Select one of these options:
    • Match all selected filters: A record is a duplicate, only if it matches all of the selected filters.
    • Match any of the selected filters: A record is a duplicate, if it matches any of the selected filters.
  5. Click Advanced Options to perform an Advanced Search. See Using advanced match options
  6. Click Update Potential Matches.
  7. Do one of the following:
    • Click Open next to a potentially matching record to access the Record detail view.
    • Click Add Contact to convert the lead to a contact and it to an existing account in the Matched Account Records grid. See Converting leads
    • Click Cancel to return to the Insert Lead view and continue inserting the lead. See Adding a lead
