What Is synchronization?

Remote users only

If the company has remote users who cannot connect to a central computing environment, such as a wide area network or on-line system, the changes made to the database are inconsistent with the information present in the database and the Host database. Synchronization reconciles these changes, applies changes to the work group database, and creates files that remote clients can retrieve to update remote databases.

Synchronization is an exchange of files between remotes and the main office. Network Users make changes directly to the work group database. Remote users make changes to remote databases, and then connect to the main office to deposit files containing those changes and retrieve new files containing changes made to the work group database. Remote office users make changes directly to the remote office database. The remote office then contacts the main office to drop off and retrieve files, just like a remote user. Synchronization server takes the files delivered by the remote users and offices, resolves any conflicts, applies remote changes to the main database, and creates the files detailing database changes for the remote clients.

The file exchange and database update performed during synchronization is not currently available over the web. Database changes made by web users are processed by synchronization as Network User changes, and are logged. To keep up to date on accounts owned by the teams, remote users can also use Web Client to just view accounts. Account access is determined by the security access set by the system administrator.
