Sales processes are used to manage the sales pipeline. A sales process displays the steps to complete as you work to make a sale. It can prompt you to complete activities, such as making phone calls and writing letters. You can attach a sales process to an open opportunity by selecting from a list of available processes. For example, you can select a sales process called Large Deals for an opportunity with large potential revenue.

You can find sales processes in the Opportunity detail view, on the Sales Process tab.

Sales processes are divided into stages and steps. Stages group steps together. For example, the steps in a stage called Demonstration can include Demo Preparation, Product Demo, and Demo Thank you email. Each stage displays the stage name and the percentage probability of winning the opportunity when the stage is completed. Steps guide you through the actions that achieves the sale.

Sales processes are created and managed by an architect, typically a sales manager or system administrator. This person can control user access rights to each sales process.

Note: If you skip a stage, the opportunity probability is not updated. For the opportunity probability to update automatically, you must complete the stages in order. If a stage is missed, you can manually complete the stage, which causes the probability to update correctly.
