Converting leads

After a lead information is qualified, a lead can be converted to a contact and account. The Convert Lead window displays any contacts or account with matching information. Leads with matching information can be merged with an existing contact, added to an existing account, or the lead can be added as a new contact and account. You can change the filter criteria used to find matching records.

Note: The application can only search for duplicate records only from those files for which you have access. A duplicate record which you cannot access can still exist.

To convert a qualified lead:

  1. Access the Lead detail view for the lead to be converted, and click Convert Qualified Lead. See Using the Lead detail view
    The Convert Lead view is displayed with lead information displayed at the top of the view and any matching contact and account information displayed below.
  2. Select the filter check boxes to be applied under Match Filters.
  3. Select one of these options:
    • Match all selected filters - A record is a duplicate, only if it matches all of the selected filters.
    • Match any of the selected filters - A record is a duplicate, if it matches any of the selected filters.
  4. Click the Advanced Options tab to perform an advanced search. See Using advanced match options
  5. Click Update Potential Matches.
  6. Determine a method to resolve conflicting information by selecting one of these options in the Conflicts field:
    • Select Account wins, if you require existing contact information to win.
    • Select Lead wins, if you require conflicting information to be replaced by lead information.
  7. Select the Create Opportunity after Lead conversion or merge check box to create an opportunity.

    All of the leads activities, history and notes are associated with the new opportunity.

  8. Merge the lead with a matching contact:
    • Click Merge next to the record you require to merge with in the Matched Contact/Lead Records grid.
    • Complete the steps for merging records. See Merging duplicate records
    Note: 
    • Add a contact to a matching account: In the Matched Account Records grid, click Add Contact for the account, you require to add a contact. The lead is added as a contact to the selected account and the Contact detail view displays.
    • Click Convert to continue converting the lead to a new contact or account.
