Territory Realignment

Use territory realignment to reassign ownership of accounts.

Note: A territory realignment also updates the owner of the following related items: Contacts, Opportunities, Sales Orders, Quotes, Tickets, and Returns.

Rules

  • Territory realignment realigns all opportunities including closed opportunities.
  • To realign a user's accounts, the user must be active.
  • You can realign an inactive or retired user's accounts, but you must realign accounts to an active user.
  • Remote user subscription automatically updates based on account reassignment.
  • Before you realign teams, ensure you create the team to which you want to give ownership of the accounts.

To realign a territory

  1. Open the Accounts list view.
  2. Select the group that contains the accounts you want to realign.
    • Use filters to narrow the list if necessary.
    • Select one or more records by pressing the CTRL or Shift key as you click each item.
Note: If you do not select any records, you may be asked if all the records in the group should be used. If you click Yes, all of the records in the list are selected.
  3. In the Task Pane, under Common Tasks, click Territory Realignment.
  4. Use the (Find) button to define the item or items you want the realignment to update. In the lookup you can narrow the list by choosing criteria from the pick list and entering text.
    1. Owner - Click the search_new (Find) button, select a new owner from the lookup, and click OK.
    2. Account Manager - Click the search_new (Find) button, select a new account manager from the lookup, and click OK.
    3. Regional Manager - Click the search_new (Find) button, select a new regional manager from the lookup, and click OK.
    4. Divisional Manager - Click the search_new (Find) button, select a new divisional manager from the lookup, and click OK.
  5. When finished, click OK.

Important: Realigning territories may create a large number of Remote user transactions. You should warn Remote users that synchronization may run longer than usual. Using Estimate Sync to determine the impact of the realignment is strongly recommended.
