Query Builder Conditions

Use the Query Builder Conditions tab to add, edit, or delete conditional statements that are applied against the database to select data. Conditions are applied in the order they appear in the grid; however, you can use the Move Up and Move Down buttons to change the order. You can also group the conditional statements.
  • The Query Builder supports many features. The tabs you see depend on the feature you are using.
  • All groups you create should contain at least one condition. Groups that include all records may slow system performance, and a warning may appear when users attempt to view the groups.
To add a conditional statementClosed
  1. Open Query Builder.
  2. In the Query Builder, click the Conditions tab.
  3. Select a table from the upper left side of the Query Builder. If necessary, click the plus sign to expand the list of tables.
  4. Select a field from the upper right side of the Query Builder. This box displays all fields that belong to the selected table. Double-click the field to add it to the grid at the bottom of the dialog box.

The Assign Condition dialog box opens automatically. You can open this dialog box at any time by double-clicking a statement in the grid.

  1. Select an Operator.
  2. In the Value is box, enter a value or click Browse to select a value from all existing entries for that field.

If you selected "In" as an operator, the values must have quotation marks around each entry.

  1. Select Case Sensitive Compare if you want the capitalization of the value used as part of the condition. By default this option is selected.

If you are using MS SQL Server, the Case Sensitive Compare option is not applicable. All queries are case insensitive.

  1. If necessary, select Use Value as a Literal.
  2. Click OK.
  3. To add another condition statement, repeat steps 1–9, and then select the appropriate connector.
To edit a conditional statementClosed
  1. Open Query Builder.
  2. Click the Conditions tab.
  3. Select a statement in the grid (bottom of the Query Builder dialog box).
  4. Click Edit.
  5. In the Assign Condition dialog box, make your changes.
  6. Click OK.
To delete a conditional statementClosed
  1. Open Query Builder.
  2. Click the Conditions tab.
  3. Select a statement in the grid.
  4. Click Delete.
