Performing a Contour Proximity Search

Your security access determines what functions are available. Contact your administrator for any access rights changes. WebViewer users may not access full functionality.

Use Contour Search to define and search for contacts or accounts near a selected contact or account or address or specify a place. For example, you are traveling for a trade show and while you are there you want to schedule sales meetings with other contacts or accounts in the same city.

You must allow pop-ups before you can view a Contour map.

To search for contacts or accounts

  1.  Do one of the following:
    • On the Tools menu, point to Contour Distance Search and click Account or Contact.
    • Open the Account or Contact detail view for the record you want to search near and in the Task Pane, under Common Tasks, click Accounts Nearby or Contacts Nearby.
  2. Define your search.
    • Distance - Click the drop-down arrow and select the distance, or proximity, from the Starting from location to search.
    • Results - Click the drop-down arrow and select the number or records to include in the search results.
    • Starting from - Click the drop-down arrow and do one of the following:
      • Select Specify Place and use the box below to type a location, city, state or postal code.
If you type a city, state, or postal code it will use the center point of that location.
      • Select a specific place from the list.
      • Select your home or office address if they are available.
Your home or office address may not be available if geocode information is not available.
    • Type - Click the drop-down arrow and select from the list to filter the search results by type.
    • Status (Contact only) - Click the drop-down arrow and select from the list to filter the search results by status.
    • Sub-Type (Account only) - Click the drop-down arrow and select from the list to filter the search results by sub-type.
  3. Click Search.
  4. Once your list is defined, do either of the following:
    1. To open a map with the listed contacts or accounts, click Display Map.
    2. To create a group based on the defined search criteria, click Create Group, type a name for the group, and then click Create Group.
A contact or account group is created and available from the Contact List and Detail views or Account List and Detail view.
