Creating a filter attribute
This task describes how to create a filter attribute record, such as Color; how to add values for the attribute, such as Red, Blue, and Green; and how to assign the attribute values to appropriate products in your system.
- In CPQ Enterprise Quoting, select Product Maintenance > Product Filter Attributes.
- Click Create Product Filter Attribute.
-
Specify this information:
- Name
- Specify a name for the product attribute. This value is displayed for users in the standard product list or Product Catalog. The value can be translated. See Adding translations for field values.
- Type
- Select the attribute type. You have these options:
- String: Use this type for filtering on text strings.
- Date: Use this type for filtering on dates. For example, you could use this type if your attribute is for the dates that item models were made.
- Number: Use this type for filtering on numbers. For example, you could use this type if your attribute is Length and its values are lengths in feet.
- Boolean: Use this type for filtering using a selection of Yes or No. For example, if you manufacture doors, you could use Installation Included as the Boolean attribute name. Customers can filter on Yes to find doors that include installation or No for doors that do not include installation.
- Scale
- This field is displayed for only number attributes. Specify the number of decimal places needed for your attribute values. For example, if you specify 2 for the scale, then your values will use 0.00 and if you specify 4, your values will use 0.0000.
- ERP ID
- Optionally, specify the ID from your host system.
- Sort Order
- Specify the order in which the attribute is to be displayed in the
filter pane of the product list or Product Catalog.
If you leave the default value of 0, then attributes are sorted based on the order in which you add them. If you give two or more attributes the same sort order value, then the records' creation date and time are used to determine the order.
- To make the attribute active, leave Display on filter selected. If you want to activate this attribute at a later time, clear this field.
-
Depending on the attribute type, perform these additional steps:
- For string attributes, click Create Product Attribute Value and specify the text string and
sort order. For example, if the name of the filter attribute is Color, you
could specify Red as one of the attribute values.
To make the value active immediately, leave Display on filter selected. Under Product Search, a grid of all products is displayed. Select the check box in the Enabled column to enable individual products for which this value applies. You can also use the Enable All button to enable all products for this value.
- For date attributes, click Create Product Attribute Value and specify the date value. Under Product Search, enable products for which this value applies.
- For number attributes, click Create Product Attribute Value and specify the number value. Under Product Search, enable products for which this value applies.
- For Boolean attributes, select and open the Yes and No values. Specify the sort order and whether to activate the value immediately for each. Under Product Search, enable products for which each value applies.
- For string attributes, click Create Product Attribute Value and specify the text string and
sort order. For example, if the name of the filter attribute is Color, you
could specify Red as one of the attribute values.
