Adding adjustment lines

Adjustments can be specified directly to the Adjustment table or through the Add Adjustment Line dialog box opened by the Add Line button under the table.

  1. Select an account. You can specify lines from different schedules. There are certain limitations regarding accounts. For details, see "Adjustment Restrictions." If an intercompany line is selected, the Add Adjustment Line dialog box additionally includes the Affiliated Unit and Currency fields.
  2. For non-intercompany accounts, select a reporting unit from the Member Selection dialog box, and click OK.
  3. (Intercompany Lines Only) Select the affiliated unit involved with the specifying unit from the IC Line Member Selection dialog box, and click OK (the selected affiliated unit must be different than the specifying unit).
  4. (Intercompany Lines Only) Select a currency for the intercompany transaction being adjusted from the IC Line Member Selection dialog box. The default selection is the local currency of the selected unit (not the affiliated unit).
  5. Select one or more custom dimension members. The selected members can be in different hierarchies (adjustments can post independently of each other).
  6. In the Add Adjustment Line dialog box, select D or C from the list. The natural sign of the selected account displays above the D/C field for your reference.
  7. In the Amount, Debit Amount, Credit Amount, or Local column, specify a value for the local currency associated with the selected unit.
For acquisition journals, all required currencies (denoted by an asterisk) display in addition to the allowed members for the view. You must specify values for the required currencies and can optionally specify translated amounts for the non-required currencies. During a consolidation, currency values specified for Acquisition journal adjustments are posted and rolled up. Acquisition journal data specified in a local currency is rolled up but not translated. After posting an Acquisition journal, you can change values for any currency not yet consolidated.
  8. Optionally, specify a note for the adjustment.
  9. Move to a new line in the Adjustment table to specify a new adjustment line.
  10. Click Add Line in the Add Adjustment Line dialog box to specify the adjustment and clear the dialog box for new information. The Add Line button is disabled during data validation. If invalid data is detected, the command remains disabled, and an error message displays to provide details for correcting the error. Examples of invalid data are:
    • The account is the wrong type for the journal being created.
    • A parent member (leaf members are required for adjustments).
    • A negative amount is specified.
    • A required field is blank.
  11. The line is inserted onto the grid immediately before the blank row (the last line on the grid), and the Add Line button is again enabled. You can add up to 500 adjustments for each journal.
  12. Click Close.
