Rules
- To ensure an accurate calculation of values to distribute to leaf members, data must be consolidated prior to performing a top down spread. This is because the calculation is based on previously existing values for leaf and consolidation members.
- The value to be spread must be specified on a data line (type D) or a downfoot line (type T). Formula lines (type F) are not supported.
- Values must be spread in the periodic, reported view for financial data. Top down spreading does not support Detail Budgeting data, worksheet detail data, intercompany data, year-to-date data, or adjusted data.
- Data is always saved to the database in local currency values, even if the value being spread is for a translated currency.
- Although a value is specified at the consolidated level, data is only written back to leaf members. The value submitted to a consolidation member is not saved to the database. Consequently, a consolidation is automatically performed after top down spreading in order to roll up changed leaf data to the consolidated level before refreshing the grid.
- (Translated values Only)
You can perform top down spreading in all hierarchical dimensions (Period,
Schedule, Unit, and custom dimensions).
(Local values Only) You can perform top down spreading in the Period, Schedule, and custom dimensions. A single unit is selected.
- When top down spreading is
executed, the value being spread is proportionally distributed among leaf
members.
- If no value exists for the consolidation member, the value specified is distributed evenly among all leaf members, regardless of whether there are existing values for the leaf members.
- If a current value exists for the consolidation member, the new value specified is distributed proportionally to all leaf members that have existing values (values are not written to leaf members with zero or null values). The new leaf values are calculated as follows: New Leaf Value = New Consolidated Value * Previous Leaf Value/Previous Consolidated Value.
- Cells outside the focus range are not included in the spread.
- Since a formula cannot include a zero denominator, you cannot top down spread a zero, nor can you perform a top down spread on a consolidation member that is a downfoot line and whose previous value calculated to zero.
- If more than one value is specified for a consolidation member, only the last value specified is spread to its leaf members.
- Although data is consolidated before and after a top down spread, it may be necessary to change the off-grid member selection and run another consolidation. This is required when an off-grid member is a leaf member. In this case, during a top down spread, more data is affected than what displays. Change the off-grid member to the top-level member and run another consolidation to roll up new leaf data to the highest level.
- You cannot undo a top down spread.
