Creating a shift differential action
When budgeting for shift differential, the hours or FTE on the Base Salary action should be set to the total number of hours or FTE budgeted for the position. When specifying the shift action, the hours or FTE fields can be left blank to inherit the hours from the Base Salary action, or you can specify which portion of the total hours or FTE are worked for a specific shift. Hours and FTE specified on the shift action are not included in Total Hours or Total FTE when budgeting for shift differential.
To create a shift differential action:
- Open the Position Assignments page.
- Click for the position for which you are defining an action.
- Click the Actions tab.
- From the Assign New Action list, select the shift differential action.
- For hourly positions, select whether you want to specify Hours or FTE.
- In the shift differential row, to inherit the hours or FTE from the Base Salary action, leave the Hours or FTE column blank.
- Optionally, specify the shift differential amount.
- Click .
Example
Action | Start Date | End Date | Hours | FTE | Amount | Percent |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Base Salary | 1/1/2013 | 40 | 1 | 10 | ||
Shift Premium | 1/1/2013 | 5 |
Base Salary: Amount = $10, Hours = 40
Shift 2: Amount = 5%, Hours = blank
Calculated Base Salary = $10 * 40 = $400
Calculated Shift Differential = .05 * 40 = $2
Here is another example:
Action | Start Date | End Date | Amount | Hours |
---|---|---|---|---|
Base Salary | 1/1/2013 | 10 | 40 | |
Shift Premium | 1/1/2013 | 4 | 30 | |
Shift Premium - Weekend | 1/1/2013 | 8 | 10 |
Base Salary: Amount = $10, Hours = 40
Shift: Amount = $4, Hours = 30
Weekend Shift: Amount = $8, Hours = 10
Calculated Base Salary = $10 * 40 = $400
Calculated Shift = $4 * 30 = $120
Calculated Weekend Shift = $8 * 10 = $80
