Allocation
The Allocation page enables you to allocate expenses for a primary dimension such as a member in the Unit dimension, across more detailed members of other dimensions such as Product or Customer. Data is sent back to the database based on the amounts calculated for each allocation. Allocation percentages are set on dimension combinations and can be set differently by period.
The Allocation page can be opened from the:
- Global Settings page
- Action Generator page
- Position Assignments detail page, Position and Action data entry tabs
This is the allocation precedence from highest to lowest:
- The budgeter can set allocations by action assignment. This overrides any allocation set at the position.
- The budgeter can set allocations by position. Allocations set at the position level must be accessible by the budgeters for that position or writeback will fail.
If no allocations are set on the position or action, the allocation set on the Global Settings page is used to transfer expenses back to the database.
As you specify the allocation percentages, a running total is displayed at the bottom of the table. Allocations cannot be saved until all period total allocations equal 100.

Delete the selected item. Deleting an allocation row deletes the row for all periods. |
Show Periods / Hide Periods | Displays the periods in the table. Once selected, this button changes to | which hides the periods in the table.
Apply | Apply and save the allocation definition. |
Clear | Clear the values for the visible periods. |
Cancel | Close the Allocation page and returns to the original page without saving any changes. |
Start / End | Select the start and end date. You can select from a leaf members in the time dimension. By default, the current planning cycle is used. |
Allocation dimensions 1 - 3 | Displays the allocation dimensions. There can be up to three allocation dimensions based on the database setup. |
Allocation % | Specify the allocation percentage for the entire budgeting cycle. This number is copied across all budgeting periods in the defined periodicity level. Percentages must be specified from 0 to 100. |
Periods | Specify the allocation percentage by period. If allocation percentages vary by period for a given dimension combination, then Varied displays in the Allocation % column. |
