Rules
- These rules apply to the
unit list:
- User security for the Unit dimension is not enforced in the control area, it is enforced in the data entry area.
- Investors and subsidiaries must be leaf units; therefore, only leaf units are available for selection (except for ownership and elimination units).
- Read-only members display in gray font.
- Whenever the unit is changed, the grid automatically refreshes.
- Any member selections made by the user are retained by each ownership data entry page during any single browser session.
- Save is enabled only when data is specified or changed. Only valid data saves successfully to the database. The command fails for invalid data (such as attempting to save a unit type as Control for a holding company that is owned by another company).
- The styles file settings, not the view definition, determines whether dimension names or descriptions are displayed.
Best practice
If you change the ownership information for a unit after it has been used as a source for an Ownership journal, run the Erase Data process to clear out any previously posted adjustments that are no longer valid.
For example, if you run a consolidation that posts an Ownership journal defined for legal units that use the Full consolidation method and then later change the consolidation method for a legal unit that had been used as a source for the journal (e.g., from Full to Proportional), you should erase the adjustments and audit detail associated with the Ownership journal before you re-consolidate. Use the Erase Data process with the Adjusted Data Only option enabled, and select all the ownership units in the previous consolidation in addition to the accounts and other dimensions specified in the Ownership journal definition.
This should be done for an open period only (not a closed period).
