Calculations by unit

The previous sections were looking at a single unit and how values for a plan object and its parents are calculated. This section deals with a single plan object and determining how the actual and target values are determined. These actual and target values are then used in the performance value calculations.

The measure for a plan object can only be of one type although the data source for actual and target values for the scenarios vary by unit. The data sources can only be established for leaf nodes in the organization unit dimension. Consider the organization unit dimension:

Corporate
	Corporate - data
	Marketing
	Production
	Sales
	  Sales - data
   North America
   South America
   Europe
   Asia
	Human Resources
	Finance

You can set a measure data source on Europe but not on Sales. The values from the children of Sales are consolidated to generate the actual and target values. Likewise, you cannot set a measure on Corporate. If there is a measure that is only viable for a corporate level, such as Stock Price for a plan object, you will need to add another unit, shown here as Corporate - data. Then you can set a measure, Stock Price, at that level. Also, if there is a training program that everyone must do, you could set measures at each of the leaf nodes including corporate (for those employees at the corporate level) and then the values for corporate would be included like those for marketing to generate the value for the top level.

There are two consolidation methods supported; sum or average for specific actual or target values for a measure. These are not weighted. (The contribution weight applies only to how the children of a plan object relate to that plan object. It is not a weight used in consolidation of a single plan object in terms of organization unit or period.)

For example, when the consolidation method is sum for plan object Training which is a specific value type of measure.
