Setting up the views
All settings for views such as omit missing, drill mode, and sorting, should be set in View Manager. These settings are loaded every time a user opens an Excel Services workbook. If the view definition is updated, the workbooks that use it are automatically be updated when the users next open the workbook. If you change the view definition of an active view in a workbook, you can refresh the view to pick up the changes using the Reload View Definition command.
We recommend that you do not change the structure of a view definition if the view is being used in any workbook. For example, do not change the off-grid member or move the position of a dimension. Users who have been working off-line while you made changes will not be able to submit their changes when they open their workbooks and connect to the database. To resolve the problem, users should copy/paste their changes from the old workbook to the new workbook.
If you have chosen to use the view definition formatting, we strongly recommend that you do not alter the formatting within the off-grid dimension or data areas. The formatting is replaced by the view definitions formatting the next time the workbook is opened.
