Connecting to the server

After defining the web server, you can connect to the specified service by selecting the Connect to server command. When you are connected, a status message is displayed in the lower left corner. The status message includes the server name.

If you changed the server name in User Preferences, you must first close and reopen the workbook before connecting to the new server. The change to the server name takes effect only after you reopen the workbook.

A Login dialog box opens when you use the Connect to server command for the first time after opening Excel or when you first open an existing workbook. If you disconnect from the server and later reconnect while the workbook is still open, you are not prompted to sign in again. The Login dialog box does not display until after the workbook is closed and reopened.

Once connected to the server, you can use the CPM Views toolbar or menu to perform administrative tasks.

Disconnecting from the server (using the Disconnect from server command) disables several commands from the CPM Views toolbar and menu. After reconnecting to the server, some commands remain disabled. To enable these commands, refresh the workbook and then click on an on-grid member or any cell in the data area of the view (not an off-grid member or cell outside the view).
