Using the view-based workbook

Data entry is performed using an Excel workbook that includes writeable views. The Excel Services add-in connects the workbook with the database, and the CPM Views toolbar and menu provide options and command for both administrators and users.

These features are available to help you specify data:

• A familiar spreadsheet environment for entering and reviewing data.
• The ability to use Excel formulas, formatting, and advanced features.
• The ability to save a local copy of the data before submitting to the database
• The ability to save your work to a local file at any time without submitting to the database.
• The ability to work when disconnected from the database.

For CPM users, Excel Services does not support intercompany data (Financial Consolidation), or worksheet detail lines (Budgeting).

Users with read-only security can view the data in report form but cannot modify the data.
