Named ranges

Excel Services uses named ranges for the cells that contain the dimension buttons and data area, and for some of the workbook properties that can be set. If any of these names are deleted or renamed, Excel Services will not function properly. We strongly recommend that you not edit or delete these named ranges. In particular:

  • All views must have a named range for the data anchor cell (upper left cell).
  • Dimension cells use the named ranges for updating text and formats. If the named range is not found, the dimension values are not updated.

The naming convention for the Excel Services named ranges representing the dimension buttons and data area is cs + <view name> + Anchor and cs + <view name> + _Dim<nn>. The view name will have spaces and other characters converted to make the name suitable for a range name. The naming convention for the workbook properties is cs+ <property name>.
