Using cell notes
The
command provides commentary on your data for another user. For example, you can write a note to your controller regarding why a value is dramatically above or below budget.You can create Excel Services notes and Excel comments within a data area in an unprotected worksheet. Outside the data area, you can only create notes using Excel comments.
While you can use Excel comments, you should be aware that they are not saved to the database and are not accessible by other users. If you want a note to be saved to the database, you must use the
command. Also, unless your administrator chose to preserve Excel comments, any Excel comments you specify within a data area are deleted when the view is refreshed.An Excel comments indicator reveals the presence of the note. To view the note, right-click on the cell, and select
. A note specified using is prefaced with the heading View Note to distinguish it from regular Excel comments.Keep these in mind:
- Dates are recorded and displayed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).
- The command is disabled when in the design mode.
- Cell notes are not supported for Analysis Services or Infor ION BI OLAP Server models.
