Defining global settings
Oracle Only
You must be a database schema owner to initiate or save changes to these global settings:
- Main dimension
- Secondary dimension
- Detail Budgeting periods
- Click the Global tab.
-
In the
Detail Budget Dimensions
group, select the version and the main and secondary dimensions that apply to
your Detail Budgeting data.
-
From the Version list, select a
Version dimension member. The list is limited only to members the user can
access.
Note: If the Employee or Asset tables already have data, we recommend using Snapshot Version from the Tools menu to capture your data before you change the Version dimension member.
- From the Main list, select a main dimension. This is commonly done by the business unit, but you can select a dimension from the Unit, Category, or Other dimensions.
- From the Second list, select a secondary dimension, or select <none>. A secondary dimension is commonly a product, but you can select a Unit, Category, or Other dimension. The secondary dimension cannot be the same dimension as the main dimension.
Note:- After you have calculated your Employee and Asset tables, you cannot change the main or secondary dimensions. This deletes all mappings on the Mapping tab because they must contain selections for a secondary dimension.
- If you select a secondary dimension and you show members by description, ensure that you to remove the ! character from any secondary dimension member description. If the ! character is used in a member description, attempts to change the allocation for the secondary dimension fail.
-
From the Version list, select a
Version dimension member. The list is limited only to members the user can
access.
-
If you have selected a secondary dimension, click
Product Allocation. Use
the
Member Allocation dialog box to assign the
percentage of amounts that should be allocated to members of the secondary
dimension. This dialog box sets the defaults for budget holders. They are able
to change these settings.
-
In the New Allocation section,
specify the percentage of amounts to be allocated to each member of the
secondary dimension. The percentages must be specified as integers between 1
and 100, and the total of all entries must add up to 100. If you must find a
member in the list, specify the member's name in the Find box.
Note: It is important to select members that all your end users can access. For example, if you have security set up on your Product dimension, you might select No Product as a default if all users can access it. If you select members that some end users cannot access, the Detail Budgeting data specified by these users is not written to the financial tables. To prevent this, end users must change the default allocations with each employee or asset they specify.
- Click Apply.
- Click Close.
Note: Select leaf members even though you can select consolidation members. If you select consolidation members, select the Read Local Consolidated Data option before consolidating the data. This prevents the data from being overwritten during consolidation -

- In the Calendar Start Month box, specify the first month of your fiscal year in the format MM/YYYY. This date determines the beginning date for the Detail Budgeting database.
- From the Budget Period Start Member list, select the member of your Period dimension that corresponds to the calendar date you entered for the starting month. This aligns Detail Budgeting with your main database and controls the display of period names in the Detail Budgeting views. When using the Mapping tab to map Detail Budgeting data to the main database, the periods indicated by the Budget Period Start Member and Detail Budget Periods fields are included in the mapping.
- In the Detail Budget Periods field, specify the number of periods for which you want to specify detail budgeting data. For example, you can specify data for two fiscal years. This value controls the number of data columns that appear in the Spread Methods tab and in Detail Budgeting views.
- In the Detail Budget Cycle group box, select the number of periods in your budgeting cycle.
