Application configuration
These should be taken into consideration when designing your relational database:
- Minimize the number of off-sheet references in schedule formulas. Off-sheet references are references to lines on other schedules and cross-dimensional references ("of" clauses). Prior period references (e.g., of [Period]:[-1]) are not considered off-sheet references.
- Use the Beginning Balance or Opening Balance functionality instead of relative period references wherever possible. Beginning/opening balance and ending balance lines are the standard ways to pull balance sheet amounts from one period to the next. Use relative period references only when the beginning balance functionality does not suffice. For more information, see the "Beginning/Opening Balance Lines" chapter.
- Minimize the number of hierarchical dimensions. Use alternate hierarchies and/or flat dimensions instead of hierarchical dimensions wherever possible.
