Selecting members

The Member Selection dialog box enables you to select members. The title, options, and appearance of the Member Selection dialog box can vary from what you see here as the appearance depends on where you launched the dialog box.

To select members:

  1. Open the Member Selection dialog box. View Manager uses a common Member Selection dialog box that can be opened in many ways.
  2. From the Dimension list, select a dimension.
  3. From the Hierarchy list, select a hierarchy.
  4. From the Members list, select the members. You can double-click to select an individual member. Multiple selection is done using standard keyboard shortcut keys such as Ctrl+click and Shift+click.
You can use the Search box to find the first occurrence of the specified text string. Use the arrows to search for the next matching member or to return to the previously selected member. Click the magnifying glass to find all members that contain the specified string.
Click the Search by button to display a list of attribute names you can filter the members by. The attribute lists vary based on the selected dimension. Name and Description attributes are selected by default. Select additional attributes or deselect Name and Description and select other attributes as desired. Specify the attribute value in the Search input box and use the arrows to search forward and backward for one member with the specified attribute(s) at a time. To find all members, click on the magnifying glass.
  5. From the Select Members To Select and Select Related Members sections, select the member options. You can select from these options:
    • Self. If the database changes to include new members, these members are automatically included in the Allowed Member list if appropriate based on their relationship to the primary member. If you do not want the selection to change automatically, specify the allowed members using this option.
    • None
    • All members at same level. This option selects all other members at the same level as the selected member.
    • All members below. This option selects all members below the selected member.
    • Leaf members below. This option selects all leaf members below the selected member.
    • Next levels(s) below. This option selects a parent and the specified levels of descendants. Set the number of levels using the arrows or directly type in a number. Optionally, the number of levels entered can take effect after first skipping a specified number of levels. To skip levels, select the After Skipping check box and enter the number of levels to skip in the second box.
These options are not available on the Off-Grid Member Selection dialog box.
  6. Click Add. This adds the selected member and specified options to the selection box.
  7. Click OK.

The selection area at the bottom of the dialog box displays the selected member followed by the specified options for the member. You can remove a selected member by selecting the check box next to the member name and clicking the Delete icon.

You can change a selected member's option by highlighting it and changing the Related Member options.
