Model Dimensions

In the Model Dimensions page you can:

  • Change dimension names and descriptions.
  • Enable security on the Version dimension and custom dimensions.
  • Add or delete custom dimensions.

Best practices:

  • Minimize the number of hierarchical dimensions.
  • Minimize the number of hierarchical Category and Other dimensions.
  • Wherever possible, use alternate hierarchies or flat dimensions instead of hierarchical dimensions.

Option Description
Adds a dimension.
Deletes the selected dimension.
Name Dimension name. You can change the dimension name.
Description Dimension description. You can change the dimension description.
Contains/Type Dimension type. You can change the dimension type for custom dimensions. Choose Other or Category. Other dimensions apply to all schedules. Category dimensions identify schedule line amounts at a greater level of detail than the schedule line.
Shape Dimension shape, flat or hierarchical. You can change the dimension shape for custom dimensions.
Usage Dimension usage indicates which data is used by this dimension. You can change the dimension usage for any custom dimensions. The options for this setting are Financial Data or Financial and Exchange Data.
Secure When a dimension is secure, the administrator can restrict access to its data on a user-by-user basis. The Unit dimension is always secure. You can change the security setting for the Version dimension and any custom dimensions. Note that each additional secured dimension could impact application performance.
