Working with Data and Members

Because a gauge contains a single value, only one database value (or cell), is needed per gauge. Since a database cell is the intersection of a chosen member from every dimension, that is how a gauge value is defined: a member from every dimension is selected. There are two ways to specify a gauge member:

  • As the dimension's active (or off-grid) member.
  • As a constant member.

By using a constant member in a dimension, the gauge member for that dimension does not change, regardless of changes to the active member. By default, the gauge member from a dimension is the dimension's active (or off-grid) member.

If you want a gauge to display a predetermined value that does not change under any circumstances, you can apply a constant value. This value overrides the automatic data coming from the database.
