Selecting the focus member

The focus member is the member on which the Overview is based. For example, if Quarter 1 is the focus member of the Period dimension, and it has exceptions defined on it, then the values for the Quarter 1 member drive the color-coding of the nodes.

If you manipulate the view such that the focus member is no longer on grid, another member is automatically selected from the on-grid members. The Selected field displays the originally selected focus member. The Active field shows the member currently being used as the focus member.

Focus members for every dimension are initially set as the first member in the dimension.

To select the focus member:

  1. Click the Manage tab.
  2. In the Focus Member group, click the dialog box launcher.
  3. Select a dimension for the focus member. This list displays the available dimensions.
  4. Select the hierarchy.
  5. Select the member to use as the focus member.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Save Changes.
