View appearance

The best way to customize a view is to apply styles. Styles enable you to customize the appearance of an object. For example, you can set the font type and size or customize colors.

You can use the pre-defined styles supplied with the sample database or you can customize them.

These objects have styles:

  • Grid
  • Chart
  • Gauges
  • Members
  • Dimension buttons
  • Dimension bar

Because grid, member, and attribute styles allapply to the grid, they are applied in the following order:

  • Grid
  • Attribute
  • Member

When changes are made to any style, the changes are saved when the view is saved. This means when you are changing a grid style on one view and you move to a second view that also references the style, you will not see the changes until the first view is saved

If an existing style, even in midst of being modified, is renamed, it and any pending changes are immediately saved under the new name.

In order for the appropriate styles group to be displayed and enabled, the object you want to modify must be selected and the appropriate tab must be active. For example, if a grid is showing, you cannot get to the chart styles. If a chart is showing, you cannot get to any styles other than the chart styles. A member must be selected for the Member tab style group to be enabled. An attribute must be selected in the Attributes group for the attribute style group to be enabled.
