Select Head Office and then select the No Access and Descendents options.

Next, select the parent member, Total Company, and then select the Read Only and Descendents options.

The access settings for Head Office and its descendents do not change and remain set to No Access. This is because of the precedence rule that when dealing with overlapping Descendant (or Leaf) relationships, priority is given to the relationship that is closest, in terms of hierarchy levels, to the member.

It may seem as though your settings were not saved, but the selected member may have security access with a higher precedence or have security that is derived from a relationship that has a higher precedence.

To know why a member has been given a particular access, select the member and the Access Defined By: pane shows the member from which the selected member’s access was derived.
