Calculator

You can use members that do not reside in the database by adding them through the calculator. The calculations are done on the server but they are distinct from the database. This reduces the size of the database.

In Decision, the calculator is opened through a toolbar button. In View Manager, the calculator is opened through the Calculation group on the Dimensions tab.

The functions on the calculator are:

Function Description
Total Create sums. For example: A + B + C.
Variance Calculate the difference between two values. For example: B - A. For percentage variance, click IN %.
Multiply Perform multiplications. For example: A x B x C.
Average Calculate averages. For example: (A + B + C)/3.
Ratio Create ratios, indices and proportion. For example: A/B or A/(B + C + ...)
Trend Create a new member whose data is based (forecast, estimated) on existing members.
Function Open the Function List dialog box which provides a list of different function categories, and the functions available in each of those categories.
In % Calculate the percentage ratio. For example: 100 x (A/B) or 100 x A/(B + C + ...)
Next Create additional trend calculated members, each one forecast one point father along the same line of best fit as the initial trend. This button is enabled after an initial trend has been specified.
+/- Use the +/- button to change the sign of calculations. For variances, the +/- button changes the formula from B - A to A - B. For all other calculations, it switches between addition and subtraction.
