Adding a dimension group

A dimension group enables you to place two or more dimensions at the same level in the grid. This is in contrast to nested dimensions where the dimensions are at different levels.

With nested dimensions, the inner dimension members are repeated for each member of the outer dimension. This is not the case in a dimension group; the members of each dimension display next to the each other.

One reason to use a dimension group is if you want to show total year Actual and Budget numbers next to period values. You do not want to repeat the numbers by nesting; you only want a single column.

To create a dimension group:

  1. Open the Dimension Controller.
  2. Drag a dimension above or below an existing down dimension. The cursor changes to a double-headed arrow to indicate drop location.
  3. Drag a dimension to the left or right of an existing across dimension. The cursor changes to a double-headed arrow to indicate drop location.
