Period

The Period dimension defines the periods within a year.

For a relational application, the default setup for the Period dimension is one opening balance period, 12 months, 4 quarters, 2 semi-annual periods, and one yearly period. There are other automatic options, or you can set up the Period dimension to your needs. Once you have set up the Period dimension, you cannot change it without rebuilding the entire database.

The opening balance period stores the data from a prior year. It enables you to store beginning amounts for Balance Sheet lines. The opening balance period is initialized by Start New Year or the Data Loader.

Members of the Period dimension must be in chronological order by member name, not member ID.
