Properties tab
The Properties tab fields are the same for all types of journals. This table shows the Properties tab fields:
Option | Description |
---|---|
Name | The name of the journal. The journal name is also displayed on reports such as the audit reports. |
Description | A text description of the journal. You can specify up to 255 characters. |
Version | You can select the Version dimension member in the database from which the data for the journal will be drawn. If you want a journal definition to apply to all versions, you must create instances of the journal for each version. |
Periodicity |
The periodicity that the journal applies to how often the journal posts. The schedule periodicity for the lines included in the journal definition must match the journal periodicity. For example, if you define a journal with a quarterly periodicity, it is posted when a schedule with quarterly periodicity is consolidated. If the schedule has a quarterly periodicity, and the journal periodicity is monthly, the journal will not post because months are not included in the quarterly periodicity. |
Starting and Through Period and Year | The effective life of the journal. These fields define the Starting and Through
Period and Year during which this journal is in effect. As you add years to the
database, you must extend the effective range for the journals. Note: Journal
periodicity and effective life
The journal periodicity (monthly, quarterly) must match the periodicity of the periods in the starting and ending date of the journal effective life for the journal to post properly. For example, if the periodicity is specified in quarters and the effective life is listed as January through December, the journal will not post, even though January is the starting of Q1 and December is the end of Q4. To post this journal properly, the effective life must be specified in quarters (Q1 2005 to Q42005, for example). Similarly, if the journal periodicity is specified in months, the journal effective life must also be in months, and cannot be Q1 to Q4 |
Journal Notes |
Specify any additional information about the journal, including an explanation of the journal or change history. Notes are limited to approximately 2000 characters for each journal. You cannot use single quotes ( ' ) in a journal note. When importing journal notes that contain carriage returns as part of the note, Oracle users may see a blank character in place of a carriage return in the Notes field. This is because SQL Worksheet converts a Newline command into a single character. When you open the note in Architect, delete the blank character and replace it with a carriage return to view the note properly. |
